Do you know your core values?

Values are the beliefs that influence our behavior and decision-making. For example, if people believe that telling the truth is very important, they will try to be truthful when they deal with other people. The values that have the most power in your life are your core values. Surprisingly, most people can’t name their own core values. Do you know your core values? This quiz can help.

“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. And, keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”

Mahatma Ghandi

The following quiz (adapted from the “Life Values Inventory” ©Brown,Duane and R. Kelly Crace, 1996. Publisher: Life Values Resources) is made up of a list of beliefs that can guide people’s behavior and help them make important decisions. Read each belief and then choose the response that best describes how often the belief guides your behavior. The possible responses to each belief are:

  • Never Guides My Behavior
  • Rarely Guides My Behavior
  • Sometimes Guides My Behavior
  • Often Guides My Behavior
  • Always Guides My Behavior

Read each belief carefully and click on one response. Usually your first idea is the best indicator of how you feel. Answer every item. There are no right or wrong answers. Your choices should describe your own values, not the values of others.

You can discover the answer to the question, “Do you know your core values.” After responding to each belief, click on the SUBMIT button to see your results. The results you see will help you understand the beliefs that are most important to you and that you hold closest to your heart: YOUR CORE VALUES.
