Did you know that almost 50% of our daily routine is habit. Times when we are on autopilot that gives us a chance to relax a bit and dream. Most adults have no idea what they are going to do when they wake up each morning because they have not thought about creating a schedule to follow. As a result, many people feel like they are stressed, anxious, overwhelmed and falling short of their goals and true potential. That’s why you can be ahead of the game if you jumpstart your successful day using these 5 uplifting routines.
Why Routines are Essential
Routines are necessary because they:
Make Us More Efficient
When we have a routine that we follow daily, it reduces the need to make decisions each day by eliminating the need to plan our activities every morning and budget and allocate our precious time.
Create Structure in Our Lives
A daily routine provides structure and a logical sequence in our lives. As we become familiar and comfortable with what we have to do each day, we develop good habits and it also helps to eradicate bad habits that do not serve us well.
Prioritize and Become Proficient
When you have a routine, you start to become better at doing certain things because you do them regularly. You establish a set pattern that forces you to prioritize and decide what is important. We already know what we need to do and in what order because we have carefully planned and practiced it.
Build Momentum and Reduce Procrastination
When a set of tasks and activities become routine, it reduces the chance that we will procrastinate doing them. Tasks become ingrained into our system and we do them alomost subconsciously. Doing the same things repeatedly builds momentum, making it easier to persist.
Reduce Stress and Builds Self-Esteem
As we adhere to a routine and stick with it, it helps build self-esteem and gives us a sense of tremendous satisfaction. When we design and stick to a routine, it eliminates a lot of stress because we do not have to think and worry about what needs to get done. The act of ‘doing’ gives us a sense of control and helps us relax instead of fretting about the tasks at hand.
Each of us is different and has different goals, needs, desires, and resources. That is why it is important to develop our own routine after carefully deciding what we want to achieve in our lives. Setting a routine can help you achieve your goals and eliminate some stress. It is certainly worth a try.
“I’ve been singing Shakira songs in front of my bathroom mirror into my hairbrush forever. It’s like a daily routine.” Taylor Swift
Here is a daily routine I worked out. It allows me to add and subtract things, prioritize and best evaluate so I can improve. You might try one or two or adapt them to suit you. The important thing is you are taking control.
5 Uplifting Routines
Arise
As you wake and face the day, take a moment to be grateful. Be grateful for the small things or the life-changers.
Stabilize
A warm drink with lemon can help with hydration, digestion, skin tone, and antioxidants. Take a moment, sip your drink and think about your plan for the day?
Energize
As you begin your day, not only energize your body, energize your vision. You can reaffirm and fine tune your vision as you shower or make breakfast. Now you have set the stage for success. Being aware of what you want and/or need to do makes the doing easier as you go through your day.
Mobilize
Be realistic. As you put your plan in motion, remember there are 24 hours in a day. Try to do the “must dos” first. This way if you get sidetracked you will still feel productive at the end of the day. First and foremost, be kind to yourself. Now get out there and own today.
Summarize
Whether you are going about a day with errands or a day at your salaried job, this plan can work. In either case, at the end of the day it is important to take just a minute to reflect on what has worked and what has not. Give yourself a pat on the back and acknowledge your successes. If you fell short of what you wanted, give some honest thought as to why.
Then tomorrow start off confidently with your 5 uplifting routines.
